Forward

Blog. Shortened from the word weblog, a blog is known among the teenage crowd as “a shared on-line journal where people can post diary entries.”

As a reader of several blogs (a former reader for most of them), I can say that I have encountered two types: The first is a record of daily occurrences. The second is a more selective record of daily occurrences combined with observations and thoughts. Trust me when I say the latter is infinitely more interesting to read than the former.

My goal for this blog is to not only be in the latter category, but also to exist in a third category, which I have never seen. This third category emphasizes the illustrative narrative of the events. Joseph Pulitzer once said, “Put it before them briefly so they will read it, clearly so they will appreciate it, picturesquely so they will remember it, and above all, accurately so they will be guided by its light.” It is the “picturesquely” that is missing from blogs I have read, and this is the element of writing where I hope mine will stand out.

In short, my blog will be a growing collection of short, descriptive, true stories from Eastern Europe.

Enjoy,
Kevin
